Start by defining your project scope, then compare architects based on relevant additions and alterations experience, services included, communication style, and approach to permitting. Ask whether the fee covers only design or also permit procurement, consultant coordination, bidding guidance, and construction administration. Reviewing comparable residential work can help you assess value rather than choosing solely by the lowest quoted fee.
